Why is Granite School District having a conference?
The Granite District Board of Education has agreed to add these days to the yearly contract. The objective of the conference is that participants will gain a deeper understanding and practical application of the Granite Way. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to determine and attend professional learning they feel best meets their needs.
What are the conference dates?
Tuesday and Wednesday, August 14 and 15 – Approximate times are 8-3:30 p.m. each day.
Which employee groups are attending the conference?
Teachers, counselors, administrators, district office specialists, coordinators, social workers, psychologists.
Are first year teachers attending the conference?
Yes. New teachers will attend the conference. In addition, they may attend Great Beginnings prior to the conference. The purpose of Great Beginnings is to provide an orientation and important information to teachers new in Granite.
Will attendees be paid to attend?
Yes. Conference participation is built into Granite employee’s yearly contract pay.
Where will the conference be held?
There will be four locations – Kearns High School, Taylorsville High School, Cottonwood High School and Skyline High School.
Which location am I supposed to attend?
Skyline High will host the Skyline and Granger networks. Cottonwood High will host the Cottonwood and Hunter Networks. Taylorsville High will host the Taylorsville and Olympus Networks. Kearns High will host the Kearns and Cyprus Networks.
How will you count attendance?
We will have a QR code in each presentation that attendee’s scan to “sign in”.
Will materials be paper or digital?
Digital. Each attendee will need to bring an internet connected device. Principals will be asked to allow attendees access to a classroom device if/when needed.

Who are the keynote speakers?
Once we have individuals selected, their bio’s will be found here.
What will be the message of the keynote speakers?
The criteria in determining keynote speakers will be content that aligns with the Granite Way and a delivery that is motivational and uplifting.
Who will be presenting sessions?
We are calling for presenters. We have a presenter portion on the website found here.
Are there resources other than the presentation descriptions that can help me decide which sessions to attend?
Yes. We recommend you consider looking at PGandE goals and school goals to help guide your decision.
Will lunch be provided?
Yes. We will have lunch on location each day.
Can I request dietary restrictions prior to attending the conference?
Yes. Please submit requests on the conference website here.
Will there be pre-registration?
No. We weighed pre-registration’s negative logistics and potential of inaccuracy once the conference began with the conference style’s negative of possibly full sessions and attendees having to attend another session choice. We decided we would go with conference style.
What if I go to a session and the room is full?
You will need to attend your next choice. Sessions will be repeated several times throughout the 2 days.
How can I request follow up to anything I learn at the conference?
There are a few different avenues to provide follow up. One would be contacting us on the website with requests, the next would be contacting the presenter via their email on the site. Another option would be to discuss with your principal and solicit support as part of your yearly goal setting.
