When would I be presenting?
August 14 and 15. Times will be approximately 8 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Where would I be presenting?
The conference will be held at 4 different high schools. A presenter will be assigned to one of these – Kearns High, Taylorsville High, Cottonwood High, or Skyline High.
What are the presentation topics or categories?
These will be listed in the application form on the website. The form is found here.
Can I submit more than one proposal?
Yes. Prospective presenters may submit a total of two (2) proposals. Each must have a different title and focus. It is important to note that a presenter will be repeating their session. Therefore, only one proposal will be accepted.
Will I be expected to rotate locations over the 2 days?
No. Presenters will be assigned to one location.
Will I be expected to present both days?
Yes. Accepted presenters will need to repeat their session over the two-day conference.
How will presenters get access to the learning if they are presenting both days?
Presenters will not have the same learning experience as the attendees. Presenters will have access to other sessions materials through the conference website. Presenters will gain knowledge and insight from the attendees in their sessions.
Who will be attending sessions?
Granite School District teachers, administrators, counselors, school social workers, school psychologists, etc.
How many attendees in each session?
This depends slightly on what type of session. Generally 90 minute presentations will have a higher number of attendees than workshops. To give a rough idea, 30-40 maximum.
Will I receive names of the attendees?
The decision has been made to not require pre-registration for each session. Our solution for materials will be to have them available digitally and associated with presenter’s bio information on the conference website.
Without pre-registration, how will my room capacity be monitored?
We debated a pre-registration model vs a conference (pick and attend) model. Both had their positives and negatives. Ultimately, we decided that a conference model outweighed a preregistration model. This means that once the room is full, attendees will need to choose another session.
Will there be a facilitator to introduce the presenter and provide individual support?
We plan to have facilitators and school technology specialists assigned to areas but do not plan to provide individual facilitator/technology person support.
Will attendees come with a device to view information digitally or will I need to provide materials?
We will ask attendees to bring their own device. We will ask principals to support their school’s attendees in allowing them to bring a device from their school as needed.
What types of sessions will there be?
There will be three different types of sessions – 90 minute presentation – 180 minute workshop – 270 minute full day workshop.
How do you know how many of each type of session to offer?
We used the interest survey conducted in October/November to guide how many sessions of each type would be needed.
What will be the focus of the conference?
Our application will have several topics to choose from. Our belief is that the number of topics allow for a wide variety of presentations that can be associated.
What is the compensation for being a presenter?
In addition to a Granite Employee’s regular daily pay, each accepted presentation will be allotted $500.00 for lesson preparation and willingness to take on a presenter role rather than an attendee role. Non-Granite District individuals receive the stipend for lesson preparation only.
What if I want to co-present with another individual?
Each accepted presentation will be allotted $500.00 for lesson development. If there are two district employee’s presenting, they will both receive their regular daily pay and $250.00 (dividing the total amount allotted for lesson preparation).
How many individuals can present in one session?
Up to four. This would mean all four individuals split the $500.00 session allotment.
I am an administrator; can I submit to present?
Yes. However, administrators are not eligible for lesson development compensation.
I am not an employee of Granite School District; can I submit to present?
Yes. However, if selected, compensation will have to be negotiated with the Granite Education Conference Committee.
Will I be compensated for materials I provide?
Our solution for materials and material logistics will be digital materials linked on the conference website. If a presenter had materials that could not be provided using this solution, this would have to be discussed with the Granite Education Conference Committee.
Will I receive feedback from those that attend my sessions?
Yes. The conference website will have a feedback link that allows for attendees to submit their impressions. Last year we did not advertise this very well and intend to improve.
When will I receive compensation for presenting?
Eligible employee presenter stipends will be added to paychecks during the pay period of the conference.
Presenters who are not Granite Employees will receive payment within three weeks of the conference conclusion.
